ABOUT SAFE WAY RIGHT WAY

Safe Way Right Way (SWRW) is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation, funded by a number of private sector companies. These include Bollore Logistics, CNOOC, Hima Cement Limited, Total Exploration & Production, Total Uganda Limited, Toyota Uganda Limited and Tullow Oil. Between 2017 and 2018 SWRW received grants from the German Development Cooperation Agency as well as the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility for implementation of specific projects.

VISION:
To create awareness at every level of society so that road safety is addressed in national policies, laws and regulations and infrastructure investment in the road sector and public health sector in line with International conventions and the Sustainable Development Goals.

MISSION:
To advocate and collaborate with citizens, policy makers, civil society in delivery of the various mandates and roles that they can play in improving road safety in their communities.

ABOUT THE VACANCY 

Reports to: Project Coordinator

OVERALL:
The Head of the school has the ultimate responsibility for the smooth running of the training center ensuring that all operational procedures are followed.  They must ensure that all staff, trainees and resources are well managed and that good relations and cooperation with service providers and other strategic partners are developed, maintained and promoted.

DUTIES:

Strategy Delivery:
▪︎ Provide strategic direction of all training activities in coordination with Safe Way Right Way’s overall Mission and Vision.
▪︎ Develop and update the training centre work plan, ensuring that training directions & objectives are technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with Safe Way Right Way priorities and targets.

Management of Staff:
▪︎ Ensure that proper standards of professional performance are established and maintained.
▪︎ Ensure that the framework for training centre attached staff appraisal is conducted in a rigorous manner.
▪︎ Encourage all staff to engage in continued professional development to benefit their own learning and development

Resources Management:
▪︎ Plan, manage, allocate and account for the human, financial and material resources of the school.
▪︎ Ensure that school property such as buildings, grounds, fleet and equipment are used properly, safely, efficiently and effectively.
▪︎ Maintain an up to date asset register of all equipment and assets in custody or ownership of the centre.
▪︎ Working with the instructors and technical team, the centre manager will oversee the maintenance of a comprehensive vehicle servicing and technical maintenance log.
▪︎ Ensure quality of learning is maintained through monitoring of trainers vis-à-vis the progress of trainees following the EAC standardised curriculum and support.
▪︎ Supervision of administrative activities relating to finance and reporting and record keeping of all training center operations in cooperation with the Finance Manager and Project Coordinator.
▪︎ Develop annual and monthly budget forecasts for all projected centre activities.
▪︎ Ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines by staff and trainees as per the Standard Operating Procedures.

Reporting: 
▪︎ Oversee annual and monthly reporting on all activities conducted at the training centre. The centre manager will be expected to enhance the reporting skills of the team of instructors and master trainers at the centre.

Documentation and record keeping:
▪︎ Maintain up to date school records that relate to the day today running of the centre
▪︎ Maintain a comprehensive database of prospective trainees and graduates both in digital and paper formats.
▪︎ Support talent matching and the process of follow up of graduates to ascertain the impact of the training programme.
▪︎ The Head of School will be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
▪︎ Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Administration or Mechanical Engineering.
▪︎ Experience in Fleet management is an added advantage but not a must
▪︎ Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role
▪︎ Financial management skills (budgeting, reporting.)
▪︎ Knowledgeable in procurement, stock administration procedures, record keeping etc.
▪︎ Good computer knowledge/ office program especially Excel, Word and e-mail
▪︎ Leadership character and a team player
▪︎ Good English language
